Eugene Gray, noted Mobile architect, designed this home after the historic "House on Bull Street" in Charleston, S. C. His design was to work for a family who enjoyed informal life as well as formal entertaining. The downstairs floorplan offers easy circulation from the formal rooms through the informal area and screened porch. It can easily host over 150 guests. The study is remarkable, fashioned of red oak with a wet bar. The interior finishes are custom and showcase wood products from native Alabama forests. The custom windows also feature working hurricane shutters. There is a natural gas generator. The home faces a cul-de-sac (Charleston Ct.), which has very little thru traffic and provides it with a park-like view as well as an impressive sight for the home. The upstairs features a master bedroom wing and another wing with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths for family and guests. There is a sitting/play area with magnificent views of Charleston Court. Also of note is the extra garage for a boat, golf cart or other recreational vehicles. The storage is amazing with plenty of closets, built-ins, and two attics. The mature landscaping features many native plants and is highlighted by a courtyard-style patio with a working, Charleston-style fountain.
